A stand alone bathtub design in a newly remodeled Utah County bathroom.

Budget to Luxury: Choosing the Right Bathtub Design

Options for Every Style and Budget

Choosing the right bathtub for your master bath is a slightly different process than selecting the right bath design for your children’s bathroom. That’s because each will function differently.

Your children’s bath space should include storage nooks for shampoo, soap, and bath toys. The materials you select should also hold up against scratches and discoloration. And it’s likely that you’ll want a shower-tub combination in case your children’s bathroom also doubles as the guest bathroom when the in-laws visit.

But when designing your master suite bathtub, it is a sanctuary. A place of relaxation and calm. You may want to select a material that retains heat for those long soaks after a hectic day. Do you want a romantic vibe? Or a special spot for a book, candle, or glass of wine?

Let’s take a look at several bathtub designs that will answer the needs of your children, guests, and yourself as you enjoy the ritual of bathing in your newly remodeled bathroom space.

Get Started

Free-Standing Bathtub Design

Free-standing bathtubs are a sophisticated and elegant option for your master suite. Often designed with a flat bottom or pedestal base, free-standing tubs also include the classic clawfoot style hailing from Victorian times.

While they are available in a range of materials, one way to stand out is to opt for a metal finish. Or, if you love a pop of color, paint the sides to match your vibrant wallpaper.

Place this tub in front of or below a window for relaxing views and natural light. Incorporate a stool or bath tray to hold necessities like shampoo, soap, or a glass of wine.

Platform

A platform-style bathtub design includes a drop-in tub on a raised platform. These are great as an alcove tub where the tub is nestled into a nook or corner. Or it can be placed in the center of the room as the focal point.

Looking to make a statement? Have the bath facade match the same material as your walls. Whether you love floor-to-ceiling marble, tile, or terrazzo, incorporating the same look around your bathtub, creates a seamless and sophisticated vibe.

The platform also provides plenty of surface space for your bath essentials, your phone for relaxing tunes or audiobooks, bath salts, and a fresh towel.

In a kid’s bathroom, a platform-style tub can easily be incorporated into a shower-tub combo space. Add a recessed shelf for soap and shampoo. Then choose a colorful tile and upgraded hardware for a look your guests will love as well.

Luxury

Nothing is so relaxing as a jetted tub. Today, fancy spas can also include LCD lighting for the ultimate experience. Consider choosing a shape that easily fits two, if creating romantic vibes is a top priority for your bath design.

Japanese air baths are a new and popular trend. Available in free-standing tubs, air baths use an air pump to push pressurized air into the bathtub, which releases thousands of tiny bubbles that gently massage your body.
